Farmshare Austin envisions a future of resilient local food economies that provide farmers with livable incomes, value the resources needed to farm, and ensure organic food access.
Farmshare Austin takes a whole-systems approach to community food security by training organic farmers, improving farm practices, preserving farmland, and increasing access to organic food.
Our work is guided by our pillars:
The mission of the educational program is to grow more farmers in order to strengthen local food systems through the Farmer Starter Program and community classes. To compliment our educational programs we will support, promote, and/or conduct on-farm and partnered research on sustainable and organic farming practices.
The result of all of our combined efforts will improve the availability of healthy, sustainably produced food, to portions of the population that currently have the least access to it. We will address cultural and cost barriers through programs and partnerships.
We are committed to ensuring that careful natural resource management is a priority for Central Texas. We are working to develop strategies to improve (long-term) availability, access, and use of environmental resources required for farming.
